Who is HoriSun
Hospice?

HoriSun Hospice consists of
a team of committed and specially trained healthcare professionals
providing expertise on living life to the fullest with dignity and
comfort. The HoriSun Hospice team collaborates and implements a
plan that provides the optimum in end of life services - HoriSun Hospice
listens and responds.
Our Medical Director,
Bob J. Bleicher, MD, is available to see and evaluate patients to ensure that
their medical needs are being met, including home/facility visits if
desired.
Our ability to respond to
the needs of those we serve, our increased communication, and overall
delivery of services clearly sets us apart from other hospice
services.
Hospice Team
Frequency of hospice visits
are established and based on the clinical and psychosocial needs of
those we serve. Visits may increase or decrease based on the needs
of the patient and caregivers.
Hospice care is provided on
an as-needed basis 24-hours a day/7 days a week by an interdisciplinary
team that consists of:

Medical Director
|
Our
Medical Director, Bob Bleicher MD, was born into a family of physicians
and nurses from
Omaha. He has practiced medicine in Lincoln for over twenty years
and has a decade of hospice medical direction. He has strong
beliefs in compassionate care with attention to patients' and families'
physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. With experience
in Internal Medicine,
Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine, he is prepared to
help deal with many family and patient concerns. His work in
Quality Improvement at local hospitals also helps bring concerned
attention to detail, superb care, and desire for
excellence.

Social Worker
Our Social
Worker, Kerri Denell, was born in Dallas, Texas where her family still
resides. Kerri graduated from Barry University in Miami, Florida with
her bachelors and masters degrees in Social Work. Kerri’s previous
experience includes partnering with Nebraska’s Health and Social
Services to offer parents and children support in an effort to reunite
them as a family unit. In addition, Kerry spent five years developing
community programs and writing grants to create opportunities for
nursing students to serve in South Florida. Kerri’s hospice experience
includes work in Southern California, Beatrice (NE), and Lincoln (NE)
for the past several years. Kerri has a passion for end of life care
and sees her work as a privilege as she listens and shares an
individual and family’s life story. Kerri loves working as a team to
offer physical, emotional, and spiritual comfort to each of the
clients she serves, helping to promote quality time in a person’s last
days. Promoting an individual’s dignity and worth and inspiring one to
make the most of each moment are Kerri’s goals as she teams with
HoriSun Hospice.

Bereavement Coordinator
Our bereavement
coordinator, Diane Reha, was born and grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of
Nebraska and later went on to get her Master's Degree in Community
Counseling from the University of Phoenix. She has worked in a
variety of settings, with various groups of people dealing with mental
health and life-struggle issues. While living in Rochester,
Minnesota, Diane was a volunteer for Mayo Hospice and a facilitator
for their community grief support groups. Diane feels very
blessed to be a part of HoriSun Hospices' team of specialists in end
of life and volunteers who companion with the family in their journey
into grief and mourning.

Director of
Clinical Services and Referral Intake Coordinator
Our Director of Clinical
Services and Referral Intake Coordinator, Susan K. Burkey, has
education from Bryan School of Nursing (RN), Nebraska Wesleyan
University (BSN), and has a Certification in Hospice and Palliative
Nursing (CHPN). She also serves on the Board and volunteers with
the End of Life Coalition, in Lancaster County, Nebraska. She is a
member of the Southeast Nebraska Chapter of Oncology Nursing Society,
and a member of the Nebraska Hospice and Palliative Care Association.
Susan says, "I have worked in end of life care for over 20 years and
fined that this is an area I am committed too. End of Life care is a
specialty of its own and there is opportunity for growth to improve
care people receive at this time. I want to continue to educate the
general medical profession to come to recognize the unique care that
is necessary and people deserve at end of life."

Volunteer
Coordinator
Our
volunteer coordinator has worked with families dealing with a
life-threatening illness for over twenty years. After earning
her BA degree in 1980, she trained at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the
Child Life Training Program and later received her Master's Degree in
Family Rehabilitation and Counseling Psychology from the University of
Nebraska. Pam has worked with the Children's Cancer Center at
Phoenix Children's Hospital, Lincoln Candlelighters, and Mourning Hope
She has nearly five years previous experience as a hospice volunteer
coordinator. Pam believes that volunteers are the heart of
hospice.

Provider Relations
Our
Director of Provider
Relations, Curtis Klein, was born into a family farm environment in
Northeast Nebraska. Upon graduation, he attended University of
Nebraska-Lincoln studying business administration. It was during
this time that he accepted a job with an electronics firm in Lincoln
serving the long-term care market. He worked 11 years with this
firm before joining a hospice agency serving Southeast Nebraska.
He completed his Bachelors degree from Concordia University-Seward
while working in the hospice agency. He has over 15 years of
combined healthcare experience serving the hospice, long-term care and
other areas of healthcare service segments. It is his passion to
see people access the various aspects of healthcare that is the
driving force for him to reach out to educate the public on the
benefits of hospice. |
